A cold Winter’s Day

Sat Jan 31, 2004, 9:25 AM
:pointr: Welcome

You wish for snow for months and what happens? You get months of it. All in one day. Having headed to training at 6.30 this morning I had only a slight hint of what I would be greeted with on my journey home. Then it was a light sprinkling. By the time for my journey home it was a blizzard. It gave me a great opportunity to get some “winter” shots in though - even better test out my new lenses…

Sorry I’ve not submitted much, but with my exams only just finished and the new semester having begun this week I’ve not had much opportunity to get out and about with my camera. Hopefully on Monday I’ll be able to get my film processed that I just used up today. I’ve not been commenting other people’s work as much recently either, having only found he odd couple of minutes here and there to lurk in the background looking at other people’s work. If anyone wants me to comment any of there work, please feel free to ask – why anyone would actually want me to comment their stuff is beyond me though.

Oh, and I can’t help but mention that on the 28th this month *dapejn announced to the DA community in the form of two photos that he became an uncle! Congratulations mate, I wish you all the best of luck and good health in the future!

I’ve really had a great time the past couple of weeks on DeviantART being added by many extremely talented artists – including one or two artists that I’ve really looked up to since I joined DA not that long ago and even a few fellow Scots! Thank you so much everyone for your support, it’s really great to see that people do enjoy my work and you all have been a motivation for me to keep on going.

I’ve been following this talented deviant soon after I first joined DA. He has enormous flare with a camera and also is a very talented artists – whether on paper or on the computer. Recently though he has started to support the community much more actively via his journal. Indeed many of the ideas for “featured” stuff were concepts I initially got from kernos. With 3,774,928 deviations quoted by DA at time of writing and god knows how many deviants there are out there this site needs more people like kernos to help highlight some of the great talent that can easily be missed by others. I hope many follow in his example.

I’ve seen ~lotofire’s talents developing for some time now and I have to say – she really does have talent. Recently she has been experimenting with macro photography to great effect. It’s by far my favourite work from her to date. Indeed I had a hard time selecting one deviation from the many she has posted recently on macros. In the end I went for this excellent piece that looks as though it would be quite at home in a fairy tale. To me the lighting and composition are astounding, seemingly (to me) departing from the more “traditional” tried and tested composure normally employed in such a photograph. You would do well to have a good look through her gallery – past and present. There are plenty of gems to find in there. I know I can be very critical about your work at times lotofire, hopefully this highlights how much I actually do love your stuff really…

Yeah, where I am we had about 1 day of snow (on Wednesday or something) and it didn't amount to anything much. It was all gone by the next day and that was that. Until today when I drove my wife to work in East Kilbride..... I thought to myself, shall I take my camera with me today? For some reason I said no  Could have kicked myself.... the place is covered!!! And it was actually kinda blizzard-like up there. Anyway, I had to come back to get my car tax and some other stuff needed done...... now it's dark.
Tomorrow when I take her to work again I will have my camera

It used to snow quite a bit up here, but every year it seems our seasons have been getting milder and milder - with the exception of a handful of days in the year where we get some freak weather conditions... Yeah you did tell me I'd get through the exams - I should never doubt your wisdom even for a second... ;)

Hopefuly I'll have some material worth submitting soon when I get my film developed. Till then I guess we will just have to hold our breaths...

Yeah, I remember walking out of university once and being shocked to be greeted with blizzard like conditions - for about 40 minutes. Most of the snow had melted by the time all my lectures had finished though and consdering it would take me 1 1/2 hrs to get home, I knew I didn't stand a chance of grabbing my camera and firing off a few shots before much of it had melted. :(

Well the heavy snow might have frustrated many motorists today, but I was almost jumping for joy when I realised I had a great oppertunity to take some pretty sesonal looking photos. Just hope that something daft doesn't happen like my photos becomming over-exposed due to reflections from the sun off the snow...

I hadn't realised just how local you were mate. Nice to see tht there is plenty of really talented people close by... :D

Your no more crazy than me... ;)

I'd reccoment you breathe occasionally whilst you wait for me to submit more stuff... I forgot to get my film processed yesterday (DOH!!) and I'll prob forget each day of this week. Plus DA is running really slow right now - I've read of plenty complaints from fellow deviants that they were having troubles submitting work...

yea... they've had problems, I think it's gotten some better though, hasn't taken me as long to get comments and all... heh my friend joined DA yey! I'll have to post her link the next time I update my journal maybe she'll post something soon once she learns the ropes.
Take care! talk to you later
